Westhampton Beach advanced to the Suffolk County quarterfinals on Thursday, downing Mercy 5-2 to book a matchup against second-seed Hills East on Friday.

Marin VanderSchaaf notched a key win at third singles, beating Jamie Diensieski 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 to help lead the way for the Hurricanes.

The first doubles tandem of Juliet Tomaro and Rose Peruso defeated Brooke Kappenberg and Karina Ellis 6-1, 6-1.

“I think it was our best match of the season,” said Peruso. “We had a close win against this team last time but we were able to take control of the match today.”

“We are good friends so we communicate well and were able to stay calm, cool and collected throughout the match,” added Tomaro.

At third doubles, Helena Jones and Rieve Delisle nailed down a 6-1, 6-1 win against Laura Hanna and Julia Cappiello.

“Today I thought we played really well,” said Jones. “I think the key today was that we kept a positive attitude throughout the match.”

That ability to maintain a positive attitude stems from the pair’s friendship off the court.

“We are good friends on and off the court so we know how to keep each other up and positive,” said Delisle.

The clinching match would come from second doubles, as Avery Lagattolla and Jen Curran beat Ruan Waski and Jordyn Strimski 7-5, 6-4.

Winners of four straight, Westhampton will look to continue its run against Hills East, who defeated 15th seed Patchogue-Medford on Thursday.

The other Suffolk quarterfinals will see fourth-seed Commack host fifth-seed Floyd, sixth-seed Harborfields visit third-seed Islip and top-seed Ward Melville host ninth-seed Smithtown East.
