Elina Svitolina secured the biggest title of her career on Sunday, fighting back to defeat American Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to win the 2018 BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore.

“For me it was a very tough match, but in the end, I found way here and there, one, two points that made the difference in the second, and then we were in the third set already, and then the right began,” said Svitolina. “That’s tennis. That’s what happens. You know, a few points here or there can decide.”

The Ukrainian powered through the Singapore field with five straight victories, just a year after falling in the opening round of round-robin play last year.

It’s her fourth title of the year, having also won Brisbane, Dubai and Rome.

“Of course I know that I won lots of finals, but for me every final is a big challenge,” she said. “Today, not everything worked in the first set, but I fought back and that’s what brought me to the win today. I’m very proud of this.”
