Oyster Bay’s Kowalsky Earns Second Team All-Ivy Honors

Oyster Bay, N.Y.’s Courtney Kowalsky was among four Brown women’s tennis student-athletes who earned Second Team All-Ivy honors. Joining Kowalsky as Second Team All-Ivy selections include Seniors Maddie Stearns from Short Hills, N.J.; Alyza Benotto from Los Angeles; and Devon Jack from San Marino, Calif.

Kowalsky registered 12 wins in doubles and went 4-2 in conference action. Partnering with Stearns, she won four straight doubles matches in Ivy League competition at the number one slot against Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn and Princeton.

Kowalsky competed in both tennis and badminton while at Oyster Bay High School, with a 76-6 record over her high school career in singles and 17-0 in doubles. She was named to the Girl’s All-Long Island First Tennis Team on three occasions and named All-Long Island Player of the Year in 2015. She won the State and County Doubles Championship on two occasions, and finished third at the New York State Singles Championship in 2016.

Stearns recorded 15 wins in singles this season which included three victories in Ivy League play. She went 7-6 in number one singles and defeated the 107th-ranked player versus Dartmouth. Stearns also registered 14 wins in doubles, going 4-2 in conference action. Stearns wraps up her career at Brown tied for 11th in career singles wins at 63, 21st in doubles wins at 45, and tied for 13th in combined wins with 108.

Benotto earned Second Team All-Ivy honors for singles for the fourth-straight year and Second Team honors in doubles for the second-consecutive season. She logged 14 wins in singles with three Ivy League victories. In doubles play, Benotto led the team in wins with 22 which included a perfect 6-0 mark in conference action. Her 22 victories are tied for ninth all-time in the Brown record book for a season. Benotto concludes her career tied for third all-time in career doubles wins (79), tied for sixth in career singles victories (75) and fourth in combined wins (154).

Jack posted 15 wins in doubles for the season and was a perfect 6-0 against Ivy League foes. For the spring, Jack went 6-1 at second doubles. Jack and Benotto logged 15 wins together which is tied for 10th best at Brown for a season.
