Massapequa Beats Lynbrook, Advances to Play GNN in Nassau Playoffs

The Masspaequa Chiefs defeated Lynbrook 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon to secure the 11th seed in the county playoffs and move into a matchup with sixth-seed Great Neck North.

Lynbrook earns the 13th seed and will play fourth-seed Roslyn.

The showdown between Massapequa and Lynbrook was tight throughout, and the Chiefs came away with the victory thanks to two clutch comeback wins from its third and fourth doubles teams. Daria Durandina & Julia Nastasi won 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) at third doubles while Rafaela Dimitrakopopoulou & Evelyn McCabe claimed the fourth doubles point with a 5-7, 7-5, 10-5 win.

Massapequa’s Gigi Hunt won at first singles 6-0, 6-1 and Victoria Bowman & Katelyn Kalvo notched a 6-4, 6-1 victory at first doubles to round out the scoring for the Chiefs. For Lynbrook, Grace Bodian and Ambiya Hussain won at second and third singles, respectively, and Jordan Glickman & Lexie Samelson were 6-4, 6-2 winners at second doubles.

Fifth-seed Cold Spring Harbor secured its spot in the quarterfinals with a 7-0 win over Herricks. The Seahawks won all four doubles flights and got wins from Nicolette Loeffler, Kati Cotek and Hailey Schulsinger at first, second and third singles, respectively, to become the first team into the final eight in Nassau County.
