Long Island High School Recap: Valley Stream North Clinches Conference Championship

Valley Stream North edged Locust Valley 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon to clinch Nassau County Conference III-A.

Daniel Ellis, Craig Papajohn-Shaw and Everton Prospere won at first, second and third singles, respectively, to put North in a good position to win. At second doubles, David Feldman and Jack Schwabe sealed their team’s victory with a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Valley Stream North wins the conference championship for the first time since 2009, and will now meet Great Neck South in the opening round of the county playoffs.

In Conference III-B, Carey-Sewanhaka edged Oceanside 4-3. Danny Mor came back to win 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 at third singles to help lead the way.

Carey-Sewanhaka and Oceanside will face off again on Wednesday to determine the Conference III-B winner. The conference champion will advance to play Port Washington on Thursday.

Matt Esrail helped move Great Neck North past the opening round with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at fourth singles as the Blazers defeated Bellmore. Great Neck North advances to play Syosset.

Jericho pushed its way into the second round as it downed Massapequa 7-0. Ethan Brown & Will Concepcion scored a key win at first doubles to lead the way. Jericho now plays the winner of Valley Stream North and Great Neck South.
