Tips From The Pro: The Drop Shot

Many of us are geared towards hitting the ball through our opponent with power and depth. Using the drop shot in addition to this idea can make the court seem very big and difficult for your opponent to cover.

The key to the drop shot is aligning the head of the racket with the ball, turning the shoulders slightly, bending your knees and coming just under the ball with the racquet face slightly open. This is very similar to how you would hit a volley but a little softer. If you set this shot up with some good deep groundstrokes, the drop shot does not have to be perfect.

The goal should be to get the ball to bounce two or three times before it reaches the service line. Remember to use this shot sparingly, but definitely use it to make the court more difficult for your opponent to cover.
